DID YOU KNOW – Bear Grylls has a connection with Assam?

Edward MichaelBearGrylls, born on 7 June 1974 is a Northern Irish born British adventurer, writer and television presenter. He is widely known for his television series Man vs. Wild (2006–2011), originally titled Born Survivor: Bear Grylls in the United Kingdom.

Amidst all the fame, did you even bother to trace the roots of this tough survivor? It will come as a surprise to many to know that the Man vs. Wild adventurer has a deep connection with the Northeast Indian state of Assam!

As per an article published in Voice of Greater Assam (VOGA), Bear Grylls is the great grandson of Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Walter Doling Smiles who managed a tea garden in Assam during the British Colonial Rule. The Lieutenant was born on November 8, 1883 and was a Northearn Irish Politician.

Back in the 1920s, he not only managed a Tea garden in Assam but was also a member of the Assam Legislative Council.
