Assam University Student missing for 40 days, police clueless

GUWAHATI: Even after 40 days, Assam Police have allegedly failed to trace Assam University student Rupjyoti Das who had gone missing on May 19 from Silchar town in Cachar district under mysterious circumstances.

The 23-year-old IT department student was last seen having a beverage at a shop near his rented house in Silchar. “On May 16, his final semester exam got over and he was supposed to return home on May 22. But he had gone missing and nobody knows anything about his whereabouts. Even police are clueless,” said Nilomoni Singha, the missing youth’s uncle.

The student hails from the Abhayapuri area in Bongaigaon district of lower Assam. Rupjyoti’s parents found that he was not at his rented room in Silchar on May 21 when they had gone there to fetch him. “He (Rupjyoti) had already booked tickets for all of us so that we all can return home on May 22. But when we reached his rented house, it was locked. After attempts of locating him failed, we lodged a police complaint. His mobile, laptop and even ATM card was found inside the room,” his parents told the media on Monday. The student’s family expressed surprise as police have not even seized his mobile phone to look for clues. “All his personal items are with us and police have not gone through the call record details even,” alleged a family member. tnn
